Standing on the rim of an eroded volcanic cone, Wilderness Bisate Reserve occupies one of Rwanda's most dramatic settings. The six Virunga volcanoes form a full circle around the property, visible from every angle. This small lodge, with just four villas, offers direct access to the gorilla tracking experience in Volcanoes National Park. Bisate Reserve sits within walking distance of the park headquarters, making it a practical base for gorilla trekking. The lodge's architecture, designed by Nick Plewman, uses local materials: thatch, timber, and volcanic stone. The curved forms echo traditional Rwandan royal dwellings. Reforestation has transformed former farmland into forest habitat, with over 120,000 trees planted around the property.
